Roof Anchor Certification FAQs
What is roof anchor certification?
Roof anchor certification is an evaluation and documentation process used to determine whether an anchor system meets the applicable requirements for its intended use. The process may involve inspection, documentation review, testing and engineering evaluation depending on the system.
Is roof anchor inspection the same as certification?
No. A visual inspection primarily evaluates the observable condition of the anchor and system components. Certification may require additional documentation, testing or engineering evaluation.
Is load testing the same as roof anchor certification?
No. Load testing is a testing procedure that may form part of a certification or evaluation process. Whether testing is required depends on the anchor system, its intended use, applicable requirements and available documentation.
How often do roof anchors need to be inspected or certified?
There is no single interval that should be applied indiscriminately to every roof anchor system. Inspection and certification requirements depend on factors including the anchor’s intended use, system design, manufacturer instructions and applicable OSHA or consensus-standard requirements.
What happens if we don’t have the original roof anchor documentation?
Missing documentation does not necessarily mean the anchors must immediately be replaced. The existing system should be evaluated to determine what information is available and whether inspection, testing or engineering review can establish its suitability for continued use.
Can a roof replacement affect roof anchor certification?
Yes. Roofing work can alter flashing, attachment conditions, system components or the surrounding roof assembly. Existing fall-protection systems should be considered when significant roof work is performed.
Can Shine On certify existing roof anchors that another company installed?
Existing systems can be evaluated even when Shine On did not perform the original installation. The scope required will depend on the system and the documentation available.
Does Shine On provide roof anchor certification nationwide?
Yes. Shine On provides roof anchor and fall-protection services for commercial properties and organizations throughout the United States.
